FociFesztivál 2013 Press Conference

The press conference for the FociFesztivál has concluded last week, and we have been waiting for the press coverage to come in so that we can post about it. We gained much publicity through the event, and our presence was mentioned in such popular news outlets such as Info Rádió, Nemzeti Sport and Magyar Nemzet Online. Cricket was welcomed by the organisers as yet another means to reach out to children, encourage them to lead an active lifestyle and to diversify the available choices.

New Native Training Opportunities

From July 30 on, there will be two additional days when cricket training is available for natives. From that day on, Viktor Ágoston, the only level 2 coach and long-time native cricketer for the Danubian Kangaroos will hold trainings in Hungarian at KAC for beginners and more advanced players. This means that there will be three days in the week where developing players can hone their skills in Budapest.

The Apple Tree 25 Over Division Has Started

Last Saturday, the first two games of the Apple Tree 25 over development division were played. Since there are only four teams playing in the whole division, all of them were around KAC, and there was much mixing of players, with some hardy souls playing what amounted to 50 over games of cricket, which couldn't even happen in the first division. The four teams were DCC, the Natives, Fairies and Bat and Ball.

Kecskemét Summer Camp

On Thursday, July 18th, the HCA held cricket demonstrations and practice sessions at the summer camp organised by People Team in Kecskemét, a major city in Southern Hungary. This was the 23rd such summer camp, where children could participate in a number of activities in the form of intensive classes in topics ranging from sports to contemporary art. The cricket session was attended by 250-300 kids on two small football pitches, and was a great success.

ICC Presidents' Day

The annual ICC Presidents' Day was held in London on July 12-14, with the participation of Márton Kis, the Chair of the HCA Board. This was the first occasion when Hungary was invited to participate, alongisde 31 other nations. While the Pepsi ICC Development Awards was the main attraction of the event, where prizes such as 'Best Overall Cricket Development Programme', 'Photo of the Year' and 'Volunteer of the Year' were awarded.

Baggy Blues White Wins Doherty 30.

The victorious Baggie Blues White

Finally, we have arrived to the end of the Doherty 30 over 2nd division, which started back in April. Baggie Blues White needed to win their last game against Phoenix to end up at the top of the standings table, and to make matters worse, they had to do this without some of their top players, who were out at GB Oval facing the York University Team on Sunday. The game was a tight one, with Phoenix batting in the first innings, when they reached 118 runs. The Baggies were hot on their heels, but their run rate was far from ideal and they were losing wickets fast.

York University Touring Team

Over the weekend, we had another touring team visiting for some games, this time from York University. They played two games, one 40 over and one T20 against the National Team and a select team at GB Oval, which has been finally made playable after the unfortunate flood a month ago. On Saturday, the visitors won the toss and they elected to field. The openers, Eddie Allnutt and Marc Ahuja, with a bit of luck, reached an astounding 157 partnership and the subsequent batsman all did their job eminently, ending the innings on 239-5.

FociFesztivál 2013

In another bit of good news, the Hungarian Cricket Association will take part in this year's FociFesztivál as the representative of the event's official guest sport. This festival, which was first held in 2011, is one of the most important events for the promotion of football in Hungary. The event will take place on September 8., at the sports complex at Fáy utca, Budapest. Márton Kis, the chair of the HCA board will be at the event's press conference on July 17.

A Historic Opening for the T20 Cup

On Saturday, two founding members of the Hungarian Cricket Association, the all-native Danubian Kangaroos and the fiercely social Dunabogdány Cricket Club met for the first game of the T20 Cup. This event was all the more significant because this was most probably the first league game in Hungarian cricket history when both teams were captained by native Hungarians, Gábor Török for the Kangaroos and Dávid Tosics for DCC.

Quokkas Touring Team in Budapest

Over the weekend, Quokkas Cricket Club, a semi-professional touring team paid a visit to us for two games, which they played against two mixed teams at KAC. Both games were won by the visitors. The one on Saturday ended when the Quokkas, after scoring 172 runs in 30 overs, bowled the Hungarian Mixed team out for 100. On Sunday, they faced a team mostly composed from our best female cricketers. This team achieved a better result, with the Quokkas (223 in 30 overs) winning by 17 runs. Hungary achieved 206 for 7 in 30 overs.
