Baggy Blues White Wins Doherty 30.

The victorious Baggie Blues White

Finally, we have arrived to the end of the Doherty 30 over 2nd division, which started back in April. Baggie Blues White needed to win their last game against Phoenix to end up at the top of the standings table, and to make matters worse, they had to do this without some of their top players, who were out at GB Oval facing the York University Team on Sunday. The game was a tight one, with Phoenix batting in the first innings, when they reached 118 runs. The Baggies were hot on their heels, but their run rate was far from ideal and they were losing wickets fast.

York University Touring Team

Over the weekend, we had another touring team visiting for some games, this time from York University. They played two games, one 40 over and one T20 against the National Team and a select team at GB Oval, which has been finally made playable after the unfortunate flood a month ago. On Saturday, the visitors won the toss and they elected to field. The openers, Eddie Allnutt and Marc Ahuja, with a bit of luck, reached an astounding 157 partnership and the subsequent batsman all did their job eminently, ending the innings on 239-5.

FociFesztivál 2013

In another bit of good news, the Hungarian Cricket Association will take part in this year's FociFesztivál as the representative of the event's official guest sport. This festival, which was first held in 2011, is one of the most important events for the promotion of football in Hungary. The event will take place on September 8., at the sports complex at Fáy utca, Budapest. Márton Kis, the chair of the HCA board will be at the event's press conference on July 17.

A Historic Opening for the T20 Cup

On Saturday, two founding members of the Hungarian Cricket Association, the all-native Danubian Kangaroos and the fiercely social Dunabogdány Cricket Club met for the first game of the T20 Cup. This event was all the more significant because this was most probably the first league game in Hungarian cricket history when both teams were captained by native Hungarians, Gábor Török for the Kangaroos and Dávid Tosics for DCC.

Quokkas Touring Team in Budapest

Over the weekend, Quokkas Cricket Club, a semi-professional touring team paid a visit to us for two games, which they played against two mixed teams at KAC. Both games were won by the visitors. The one on Saturday ended when the Quokkas, after scoring 172 runs in 30 overs, bowled the Hungarian Mixed team out for 100. On Sunday, they faced a team mostly composed from our best female cricketers. This team achieved a better result, with the Quokkas (223 in 30 overs) winning by 17 runs. Hungary achieved 206 for 7 in 30 overs.

Cricket Open Day

Cricket Open Day

On Sunday, June 30, the Hungarian Cricket Association celebrated its first anniversary as a member of ICC with a double event. We held an open day at the KAC grounds, where children, yougsters and adults of all ages could get to know the game, and try themselves out as batsman, bowlers and fielders, with the expert help of our coaches. We had a great turnout, the weather was brilliant and the day turned out to be a fine celebration of our efforts to make cricket a Hungarian sport. The open day was followed by a training for the national team, which was held in great spirits.

A Significant Day

On June 28th, 2012, exactly one year ago, Hungary became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Association. We have worked very hard since then, and have achieved quite a lot. Our development programmes are going well, the season is well underway and the touring teams just keep on coming. Let's hope for many more years of progress for our young, but determined and enthusiastic association!

GB Oval News Update

Today, a number of cricketers went out to GB oval to continue working on getting it back in shape after the flood that covered the whole field for a number of days. The bad news is that the grass is dead. The good news are that this way, we'll have a monstrously quick outfield and that the pitch survived mostly unscathed, so after a bit of scrubbing, it should be as good as it was before being submerged. We estimate that the grounds might be playable sooner than we expected, and this is in itself a cause for celebration.

Kispest Sport Fest Day One

Children playing cricket at KAC

This morning, two highly successful cricket coaching sessions were held for groups of about thirty children each, one at the KAC ground and one at a nearby park. This was part of a larger event called Kispest Sport Fest that will take place on a number of consecutive Wednesdays, starting today.  The kids played pair matches, led by native Hungarian coahes and it was clear that they were really enjoying the opportunity to try out this unfamiliar sport.

Fót Children Festival

Yesterday HCA was participating on the first ever organised Summer Children Festival at Károlyi István Children Center, Fót. The center is taking care of children with special needs, state care as well as refugees. The festival was organized in association with similar Hungarian state, private and religious children centers for 500 of the kids in children protection program. Activities ranged from cultural and dance performances, through pop concerts to different sports.
