Hungarian National Cricket Team perform brilliantly in Bucharest Tri-Nations Tournament

The Hungarian National Cricket Team has returned from Bucharest with the mixed emotions of having achieved impressive victories over the two opposition teams, but having suffered the pain of losing the spontaneous, weather-induced 'Super Over' that replaced a complete Final in order to decide the official winner of the 2-day tournament.

Tri-Nations Cup 2nd day

After the very strong win over Bulgaria yesterday our team faced Romania this morning. First innings closed with a 108/8 after our guys finished bowling. "Best ever TEAM performance" according to captain, Andrew Leckonby. The game finished then with our victory, with 114 for 5 in the 18th over.

As the other match yesterday concluded with Bulgaria defeating Romania, so the finals were due between us and Bulgaria.

Hungary-Bulgaria match report

    Great start to the tri-nations tournament for Hungary. Total all-round team performance began with winning the toss (when did that last happen?) and putting Bulgaria in to bat on a wonderful bowler's surface. The decision paid off with Bulgaria bowled out for 47. Wickets to all 7 bowlers used including Erno Tekauer's impressive stats of 1 ball 1 wicket to wrap up the innings. Andrew Leckonby began the match with a wicket maiden, followed it with another, and finished with 2 for 6 off his 4 overs plus two diving catches in the slip cordon.

Austria vs Hungary

Following a chance meeting at a lunch table at the ECB Coaches Conference in Warwick University, the idea of an Austria v Hungary international friendly turned in to reality on May 1st. Austria are 2 divisions ahead of Hungary so the main idea was to go and get some cricketing lessons from our neighbours and to find out just where we stand. They taught us well; only time will tell how well we listened!

Student Olympics for disabled in Zánka

From Thursday the Hungarian National Student and Leisure Sport Association for the Disabled (FODISZ) will hold a national Youth and Student Olympics event at the New Generation Centre in Zánka, with the participation of some 800 young people with special needs. Participants will compete in football, athletics, handball and beach volleyball, with finals to be held on Saturday in various groups according to age and disability.

It is a non-contact sport that can be played indoors or outdoors, for short periods of time or for days on end. The sport is accessible to players of all levels of ability and fitness, and significantly improves participants levels of physical fitness and stamina; hand-eye co-ordination; mental fitness, agility, and tactical awareness; as well as the social abilities to work as a significant individual within partnership and team contexts. All of these benefits, and more, make cricket an exceptional sport for all members of the community, but especially for children.
