| The GB Oval in Szodliget - Hungary's first full-size cricket pitch |
Members of the HCA have finished constructing a cricket pitch on 2.5 hectares of land - the oval is 160 x 170m
The site in the village of Szödliget (located 20 minutes' drive north of Budapest and two hundred metres from a train station served by regular trains from Nyugati station in Budapest) comprised two full-size football pitches, a main building with bar and changing rooms and more adjoining land
The football pitches have been merged into one full-size grass cricket surface (with an artificial wicket)
The ambitious plans for the site will see the clubhouse refurbished, cricket nets erected, and a part-time groundsman employed to maintain the quality of the cricket square
This will be Central and Eastern Europe’s biggest cricket ground.
Thanks to Mike Glover and Mark Bownas for bringing this sensational facility to Hungarian cricket!
Thanks must also go to Chris Priest for all his hard work with the ground and to his company, Alvicom, for their kind donations
